Miley New CD!

Yay! I can get Miley's new cd one day earlier than original release date! The original date was June 22nd but the record company moved the date to the 21st! I can't wait to buy the cd! I already love "Can't Be Tamed." Check it out here!

Quotes!

In my Language Arts we have to post a Quote every week along with what the quotes means to us! Here are all my entries for the year!

Standing out shows people who you really are! Don't be bold, only because you're amazingly different.
-Ziajah Nellom (myself)

I make different quotes every morning and this one really stands out to me! I like this particular quote because usually I get comments about being myself no matter what. This quote is basically saying that you're amazing and you should show it, because there is no one else like you anywhere. You are an individual who can stand out but that's only if you choose to. Be yourself because you are a precious gem. Stand out, because only YOU can be yourself!

''Never judge a book by it's cover"

I'm not sure who wrote this quote but I'm pretty sure everyone has heard it before. A lot of people judge poeple on their appearence and don't ever get to know them. Looks don't tell you anything about a person. You need to give people a chance. I think everyone should try to take a more positive route. Lead others in better direction. Show your friends that it's a waist of time to judge someone oppose to getting to know them. Morals are what matter in life. Looks don't get you anywhere so think again before you react negatively.

“Show people how you can push the negative aside. Don’t let pointless problems let you down. Think about what makes you happy. Acceptance goes to smiles!”
-Ziajah Nellom

I like this quote because it’s a different way to tell others to stay positive on subjects. It’s saying don’t let others get the best of you because that’s wasting time. Think positive instead of negative because negative gets you nowhere in life. Keep smiling because smiles remind you to be happy! I hope that people do decide to take a more positive route because that could encourage others to be positive. The more positive occurring, the more peace!

''Act the part and you will become the part.''
-William James

I think this quote is saying youv'e got to dream big. Know that you can have whatever you want if you work on it. You control what you have, so stride for it. It's all up to you. Go ahead and take advantage of whats in front of you.

“Vision gives you the impulse to make the picture your own’’
-Robert Collier

I think this quote means that everyone has a different perspective of things. Everyone doesn’t see the same things as you may see them when you are both examining the same thing. You imagine what you think it is and what it could be. Someone else could see the adventure beyond it, while others see nothing at all. I think this relates to me and everyone because everyone has a different view. You are entitled to your own opinion.

''What we see depends mainly on what we look for.''
- John Lubbock

I think that this quotes means that everyone has their own exspectations and will see what they want to see. Some people make the best out of things while others see the worst. It's all about whether or not you want to look at the situation negetively or positively. If you're looking for something good you will find something good. The same thing goes for looking for something negative. Look for the best!

Motivation is simple. You eliminate those who are not motivated.
-Lou Holtz

This quote means that if you are around people who are not motivated, you will most likely feed off of their energy. Non-motivation might inspire you to be non-motivated. If you are around motivated people it will encourage you to do better and try your best. Positive energy leads to more positive energy. I picked this quote because I think that a lot of people don't realized that when other people do something, that energy rubs off on you. Eliminate those who don't inspire in a positive way.

A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds.
----Francis Bacon

I think this quote means that if you really want to be successful, you should make opportunities for yourself. You shouldn’t wait for the opportunities to come to you. You should create the opportunity yourself. The best ways are to look for the opportunities and generate them yourself! The adventure is more fun and you feel even better that you played a part in getting what you really want.

Strength lies in differences, not in similarities
-Stephen Covey

I think this quote is saying that good ideas come out of different opinions. If everyone was the same then there would be no diversity. We need everyone to have a different point of view to get special ideas. When everything is the same, everything is bold and boring. You want to stand out and be daring. Step outside of the box and be amazing. Everyone will remember you because you stand out!

"Our words may reflect our intentions, but our action reflect our desire. Allow NOTHING to keep us from achieving our goal"
-----Andrea J. Nelson(Auntie Drea!)

I think this quote is telling people to stride for what they really want or may even need. If you want something don't allow anything to get in your way. Push aside the negative voice in your head and go after what you can have. It all depends on the amount of effort you exert to what you want. Believe it and you will receive it. Never give up, because you WILL get what you deserve.( It was in a Paramore song)

It is not even the beginning of Christmas unless it is Christmas in the heart.
----Richard Roberts

This quote is telling us that gifts, snow, snowmen and other things simular to that are not what make up Christmas. When your heart is in it you will enjoy the true meaning of Christmas. All the other things that come with the joy of Christmas is a lot later. The gifts are just something you receive, not what should make us happy. Inspire others to find the wonderful meaning and thought of Christmas. You are guarenteed to be even more amazed at what Christmas can bring you.

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
- Phyllis Diller

This quote is very simple but says so much. Smiles can do a lot because they naturally bring peace. It's something about positive energy that keeps people going and influences others to be happy. When you smile you are exerting a positive force into the universe allowing other reasons for you to smile. It's all about the law of attraction, bringing the good to you with the force of your own power.

If you do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten.
---Unknown {told by: Brianna Stipa}

This quote is basically saying that if you approach the situation with the same method it's going to result in the same outcome as before. Go in a different direction by experimenting other options. Maybe you will find the answers and things you need that way. Be open minded and try new and exciting things.

You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.
-Rabindranath Tagore

This quote means you need to take action in order to achieve. Looking at something will not do anything, you need to draw it close by doing something about it. You need a plan then you can do anything you want. All it takes is that one spark of inspiration.

"We all have ability. The difference is how we use it."
-Stevie Wonder

THIS QUOTE MEANS THAT ANYONE IS CAPIBLE OF DOING ANYTHING THEY SET THEIR MINDS TO. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT YOU EXERT TO IT. PEOPLE JUST SIT BACK AND THINK THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN FOR THEM BUT IN REALITY THOSE SAME PEOPEL ARE GOING TO BE THE ONES WHO LOOSE IN LIFE. YOUV'E GOT TO THINK POSITIVE AND STRIDE FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO GET WHAT YOU WANT. NOT EVERYTHING IS HANDED TO YOU, SOMETIMES YOU'VE GOT TO GO AND GET IT YOURSELF!

Chance never helps those who do not help themselves.
-Sophocles

This quote is saying that you should always try to help yourself before you ask for help. You’d be amazed to know what you can do alone. After you have done all you can to assist yourself, that’s when you can go looking for help. Sometimes people don’t give their self a chance, doubting themselves when they have the ability to do what they think they need someone else for. Try before you let someone else undertake what you can do.

"I am a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another will all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough."
- The Notebook

This quotation is from the book, "The Notebook." This is expressing the way he feels about his loved one. It shows how deeply he cares for her and I see it as beautiful. I like this quote because it's telling how he didn't have too much but who he loved. I see it as someone who saw nothing but her and felt everything. The best of all is that he was a regular guy and knows that. All he needs is her and he will be just fine! The book is great so far.

Every man dies. Not every man really lives.
-William Wallace

I liked that this quote is saying the opposite of what
people may think. Living should be amazing and
have a purpose. There are so many things in life
than just sitting there doing nothing. You can do
and have anything you want in life and to sit there
and let it go to waste is ridiculous. If you don’t want
your life, add those years to mine because I want to
do a lot with my years! People need to realize there
reason to be here, put their mind in a state where
life is worth wild and they will receive things in life
that are worth wild. Live life to the fullest!

I have not failed 10,000 times; I have successfully found 10,000 ways that do not work.
- Thomas Edison

When I went searching for quotes this quote emediately stood out to me. It was placed under inspirational quotes and this it very inpireing. It implies that it doesn’t matter how many times you fail, just keep trying. The only true failure is when you stop trying because you never know, the next shot may work, but you would never know that because you gave up. This quote is saying that when you don’t leave with the answered wanted, it doesn’t mean you failed, it just simply means the way you approached was not the answer. Keep attempting it with different way or method.

Failure is success if we learn from it.
-Malcolm Forbes

I picked this quote because it reminded me of a quote my dad sent to me the other day. Is a mistake really failure or is it something to learn from? That question came from a television show I watch called “Secret Life of the American Teenager.” I don’t think mistakes exist, they are things that happen in life to teach a lesson. It amazes me how you can take a wrong situation and make it a right. You basically just have to know how to approach whatever is thrown your way. It’s up to you to turn failure into success!

A day without love is a day without life.
- George Van Valkenburg

This quote is basically saying that life is love and love is life. Everyone who is living needs love and care to keep their heart and spirit healthy. People would be miserable if there was no one that loved them in their lives. I can’t imagine someone being happy without someone loving them. I picked this quote because I agree with it. I believe that the main purpose of life is to exert and receive love. It’s a beautiful thing and should be shared with as many people as possible! People take love for granted. It’s a special part of life but remember there is always someone out there with no one to love. Make the best of your lifetime!

We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone.
-Dr. Loretta Scott: Helping: Quotes

This quote is saying that everyone has a purpose in life. We all can play a part in at least one person’s life. The problems that a lot of people have is being lazy or just being heartless. There are so many people that need help out there, as well as people who have more than enough. I just wish the people with the most, would realize they can give and support others who have nothing. This quote inspires me to help people all around the world. I do hope to donate and support charities! I also wish others or everyone would do the same!

Put all excuses aside and remember this: YOU are capable.
-Zig Ziglar: Quotes on Self Esteem

I picked this quote because this is very true. So many people have doubt in themselves and that will get you nowhere. Positive attitude will allow you to do anything you wish to do. Excuses are negative energy and essentially a force field around you, distracting you form the grand prize. You can do anything you put your mind to because you are capable of anything. You are invincible but you have to believe it for the outside world to consider it.

You can see life, hear life, taste life, and feel life! Be aware of all surroundings for this earth will contribute to your own life!
-Ziajah Nellom-

I made this quote and I chose it because I'm personally trying to be more aware of life itself. Any and everthing can be special about life if you think of it in that way. So many people don't realize the true meanings of what make up life. It's the simple things that make true statements and I want to see the, as well as hear, taste and feel them. I hope to have a good life experience and I will!

If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.
-Maya Angelou

I think this quote is saying that there are some things in life that you can’t change. You have to learn with them by looking at them in a different perspective. Things that you look at in a negative way should be looked at in a positive way because you can’t change everything. Why be mad at something unpreventable? The things that are changeable, change them for the better. Make sure it’s in everyone’s best interest as well as yours. Life can be amazing if you let it be.

There are exceptions in life if you stride for more than what is said to be most!
-Ziajah Nellom

My inspiration for this quote came from a song by Paramore called “The Only Exception.” I thought about the exceptions of life and how anyone can have anything they want. If you want something, work for it, see the positive side of it and allow that to be your inspiration. You limit yourself, DO NOT let anyone limit you. Set your own goals as well as own rules. Stride for what you can have because anything is possible. You have to permit your mind to believing in the promising aspects of life!

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain!
-Anonymous

This quote is saying that you should’nt let the tireing, bad weather control your attitude, nor your day! You should always think on the positive side things. I like the rain, especially in the summer time. Me and my friends used to run out and get soaked. It was very fun and made me realize that rain is a part of life. I ‘ve liketo look at it as a cleansing of the soul. If I may say so, I have learned to dance in the rain and I will continue to dance in the rain!

Be curious, not judgmental.
Walt Whitman

There are a lot of first impressions that follow the steps of a person. Everyone judges until they are taught a different way to approach those situations. The words of the quote definitly taught me a strong lesson. Question why; oppose to answering to yourself right away. Those words remind me that you can't always assume for the world is something unique and there will be things unknown to yourself as to others. Pose your question and accept the answer for what it is.

"What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life."
-Walt Whitman

With emotion, you eyes tell a story. They always tell what you are thinking, which is why I turn away when I don't want someone to know my thoughts. This quote is saying that the eyes say it all; they make your thought believable. Walt Whitman saw the things people don't think about these days. He had a wonderful mind of purity and truth.

Random I Guess!

On Friday, June 18th my dad came to pick me up. He had my younger brother Osir with him. Osir comes in my house and my dog shei shie starts barkig like crazy toward him. I try to calm her down but I guess she "Can't Be Tamed'' lol. Anyways I was very upset with shei shie because befour her and my brother bonded and it was weird for her to act like that!

After that little incident, we went to my grandmothers house (Dad's side!). Even though my grandmother wasn't there, my two aunts (one aunt is younger than I am) and two younger cousins were there. I read a book to them, we blew bubbles and I even played them a song on the piano. Those things were all simple but I perosnally had a lot of fun for the twenty minutes that I was there lol. I felt like myself for the first time in a long time. It was definitly the highlight of my day.

My B-Day!

My birhtday was on June 17th. We didn't do much but I did have a lot of fun. At home we had pizza and played games. Everyone suprised me at school by singing to me. It was about 40-50 people in one huge room (ISP). It was really cool. Of course, I covered my face as I always do when I'm happy/embarrased! I was very thankful for that! I got $418 bucks... still waiting for more! I got one of my all time favorite movies on DVD "The Parent Trap (with Lindsey Lohan)," I also got Dear John on DVD, the book Dear John, the book "The Last Song" and The Black Eyed Peas CD! It was a good b-day!

Problem!

Blog Assignment 7: What modern social/health issues might you be able to propose can be resolved through similar, equally drastic measures? Write a satirical essay in which you focus on an issue in your community, your state, or your country, and prescribe the solution to fix the problem.

The economy today is so bad, and it just seems like things aren’t getting any better! Yesterday my family came to discover we only get channels 3 through 28. That’s not a major issue but it sucks extremely. Companies are practically begging for money and they just want us to buy digital boxes for all the rooms in my house. Car companies are basically giving away cars. Houses are being sold really cheap! Everything seems to be out of its place.

Its amazes me how many people think these problems can be fixed over night. I feel that Obama is doing a good job in office. I do feel he is doing all he can to help our desperate economy. I think what everyone needs to realize is that, “things get worse before they can get better” (I got that quote from my mother lol).

On top of our economy being bad, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico occurs. Animals have died and are covered with oil. It is sad. Worst of all, our ocean is filled with oil. Destroying life and polluting everything. It’s a rumor going around saying they are going to shut down all beaches on the east coast.

Blog Assignment 6:Who will benefit if Swift's proposal is accepted? Explain.

I think the people who are poor and starving will be benefited mainly because they wouldn't have to give up their babies for money. I seriously hope that was a joke. If Swifts propsal is accepted I think things will begin to get better. His ideas could allow the leaders to turn those ideas into actions. Giving what's best to the people and letting people see their children grow and be within their housholds. Is it even healthy to eat your own kind? Thats the health issue right there.
Where does Jonathon Swift stand on the issues of poverty, overpopulation, and famine in Ireland? With what social group does he identify himself? What were the causes/effects of the Potato Famine? Explain.

Jonathon Swift is trying to fight against the famine. He is just trying to get whats best for the people of Ireland. I would identify him as someone who is in the upperclass but cares about those who need help. Swift knows that someone needs to stand up for the people of Ireland and if he doesnt then no one else will. The causes of the potato famine were from a fungus that traveled from Mexico. It effected the people of Irelnad allowing them to become sick, leading them to death. People were scared and immigrated to places like the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Irony!

The dominant figure of speech in "A Modest Proposal" is verbal irony, in which a writer or speaker says the opposite of what he means. Swift's masterly use of this device makes his main argument—that the Irish deserve better treatment from the English—powerful and dreadfully amusing. For example, to point out that the Irish should not be treated like animals, Swift compares them to animals, as in this example: "I rather recommend buying the children alive, and dressing them hot from the knife, as we do roasting pigs." Also, to point out that disease, famine, and substandard living conditions threaten to kill great numbers of Irish, Swift cheers their predicament as a positive development:
"Some persons of a desponding spirit are in great concern about that vast number of poor people, who are aged, diseased, or maimed, and I have been desired to employ my thoughts what course may be taken to ease the nation of so grievous an encumbrance. But I am not in the least pain upon that matter, because it is very well known that they are every day dying and rotting by cold and famine, and filth and vermin, as fast as can be reasonably expected. And as to the young laborers, they are now in as hopeful a condition; they cannot get work, and consequently pine away for want of nourishment, to a degree that if at any time they are accidentally hired to common labor, they have not strength to perform it; and thus the country and themselves are happily delivered from the evils to come."
Blog Assignment 4: What is irony? Is there a difference between the "proposer" and Swift himself? Do you detect any irony to what he is saying?

Irony is when someone says the opposite of what they mean. Here are lyrics by
Alanis Morissette.... A song called "Ironic!"

"An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
Isn't it ironic ... don't you think
Chorus

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought ... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
'Well isn't this nice...'
And isn't it ironic ... don't you think
Repeat Chorus

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

It's a traffic jam when you're already late
It's a no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic... don't you think
A little too ironic... and yeah I really do think...
Repeat Chorus

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out "

The difference between the two, is the vibe of each of them. I feel as though Swift is saying these things in a more positive sarcastic way, oppose to the English Landlords realness and negative sarcastic way. I feel the irony with Swift because what he is saying is ironically what the Landlords are sarcastically proposing.

Proposer & Audience

Jonathan Swift wrote “A Modest Proposal” to call attention to abuses inflicted on Irish Catholics by well-to-do English Protestants. Swift himself was a Protestant, but he was also a native of Ireland, having been born in Dublin of English parents. He believed England was exploiting and oppressing Ireland.
.......Many Irishmen worked farms owned by Englishmen who charged high rents—so high that the Irish were frequently unable to pay them. Consequently, many Irish farming families continually lived on the edge of starvation.
.......In “A Modest Proposal,” Swift satirizes the English landlords with outrageous humor, proposing that Irish infants be sold as food at age one, when they are plump and healthy, to give the Irish a new source of income and the English a new food product to bolster their economy and eliminate a social problem. He says his proposal, if adopted, would also result in a reduction in the number of Catholics in Ireland, since most Irish infants—almost all of whom were baptized Catholic—would end up in stews and other dishes instead of growing up to go to Catholic churches. Here, he is satirizing the prejudice of Protestants toward Catholics.
.......Swift also satirizes the Irish themselves in his essay, for too many of them had accepted abuse stoically rather than taking action on their own behalf.

Blog Assignment 3: Who is the "proposer"? Who is the audience? Explain.

In this "Modest Proposal" I think English Landlords are the proposers. I think this because it clealy states in the text that, " Swift satarizes that Enligh landlords with outrageous humor, proposes that Irish infants be sold as food at age one." Even though he's using satire, I would have taken it offensively .As for the audiance, I see them as everyone, meaning the people. This is a serious matter that I feel everyone should be against. Selling your own child to be eaten for money is unbelievable and I wouldn't agree with it at any given time, place or money crisis! No amount of money will ever have you take my child from me...EVER!!!

Social/Health issue

Over the centuries, England gradually gained a foothold in Ireland. In 1541, the parliament in Dublin recognized England’s Henry VIII, a Protestant, as King of Ireland. In spite of repeated uprisings by Irish Catholics, English Protestants acquired more and more estates in Ireland. By 1703, they owned all but ten percent of the land. Meanwhile, legislation was enacted that severely limited the rights of the Irish to hold government office, purchase real estate, get an education, and advance themselves in other ways. As a result, many Irish fled to foreign lands, including America. Most of those who remained in Ireland lived in poverty, facing disease, starvation, and prejudice. It was this Ireland—an Ireland of the tyrannized and the downtrodden—that Jonathan Swift attempted to focus attention on in “A Modest Proposal” in 1720.

Blog Assignment 2: What social/health issue is being examined in A Modest Proposal? Explain.

The social/health issue in this Modest Proposal is the eating of the babies. Even though the “writer of the essay” is being sarcastic, it is a bit disturbing. If this were to happen, we as people would be destroying life slowly. It would affect everyone around us. We would be like Cannibalisms, eating one another because we’re poor? Why are people having babies if they can’t take care of them in the first place? It simply doesn’t make any since at all! If people need money, then the government should help out. No child should starve and no child shall be eaten. That is ridiculous and if this were true, then things would definitely have to change!

This is the Key!

This is the key
This is the key of the Kingdom:
In that Kingdom is a city;
In that city is a town;
In that town there is a street;
In that street there winds a lane;
In that lane there is a yard;
In that yard there is a house;
In that house there waits a room;
In the room an empty bed;
And on that bed a basket –
A Basket of Sweet Flowers;
Of Flowers, of Flowers
A Basket of Sweet Flowers

Flowers in a Basket;
Basket on the bed;
Bed in the chamber;
Chamber in the house;
House in the weedy yard;
Yard in the winding lane;
Lane in the broad street;
Street in the high town;
Town in the city;
City in the Kingdom
This is the key of the Kingdom.
Of the Kingdom this is the Key.

I like this poem because I can read it a billion times, and not grow tired of it. The words paint a picture in my mind in a different way each time I read it. I especially love the last two lines, ”This is the Key of the Kingdom, Of the Kingdom this is the Key.”It was the line, and then the line backwards, and it really stood out to me. This poem seems as if someone dug deep into one specific subject (The Kingdom). Then they reversed it and built up from what was deep within the subject (The Kingdom).

Cynthia: I thought she was cool?

“IN 1936, a glamour girl named Cynthia became a minor toast of the town. She went around with a guy named Lester, who took her to all the showoff places — the opera, El Morocco — and the next year she made the cover of Life. Cynthia would get fan mail, but if anyone ever got a reply, it was guaranteed to come from Lester. That’s because Cynthia was a mannequin.”

When I began reading this article, I thought Cynthia was this amazing person; someone I thought by the end of the article would be an inspiration! Finding out she was a mannequin was disappointing. She got fan mail and Lester would answer it, if answered. I thought she was so important that she didn’t have time to answer fan mail. After reading it a couple times, I realized it was a dead giveaway. He took her to “all the showoff places.” I mean come on, I can’t believe I fell for it. This is so jank! On the plus side, the rest of the article was interesting. It talking about mannequins of course and how they used to represent people. You can find it at this link:

GLITTER FARTS lol SICK!

As always I was in school, and it was glitter on the bathroom floor! This is when the thought came to my mind… Wouldn’t it be cool if someone could fart out glitter? I wish this person was me. It would be the coolest thing in the world. Sounds kind of nasty but if it could be glitter oppose to stench, I would definitely pick glitter! It could be like a firework exploding in the sky! P.S. I’m not gross if you’re thinking it! My mind is simply different than the rest! lol haha

SATIRE?

A satire is a literary work that attacks or pokes fun at vices, abuses, stupidity, and/or any other fault or imperfection. Satire may make the reader laugh at, or feel disgust for, the person or thing satirized. Impishly or sardonically, it criticizes someone or something, using wit and clever wording—and sometimes makes outrageous assertions or claims. The main purpose of a satire is to spur readers to remedy the problem under discussion. The main weapon of the satirist is verbal irony, a figure of speech in which words are used to ridicule a person or thing by conveying a meaning that is the opposite of what the words say.

Blog Assignment 1: What is satire? Does A Modest Proposal qualify as satire? Explain.

I think satire means your own judgment sarcastically. In the definition above it states, “Satire may make the reader laugh at, or feel disgust for.” People tell me all the time that I speak sarcastically and I do notice that sarcasm either makes someone laugh or results to them being mad or upset. I think a Modest Proposal does qualify as satire. The reasoning is because when you are doing a Modest Proposal, you are giving your perspective on a subjects. You will dig to find “clever wording” to back up your reasoning which is satire. Making someone feel like their understanding is wrong by switching up words is satire. Basically make your opponent feel dumb!
